Your preparation will depend on the type of CT scan you are having.
You will be asked to wear a medical gown and remove any metal objects, as they can interfere with the image quality.
For some scans, particularly of the abdomen and pelvis, you may be asked to not eat or drink for a few hours beforehand.
Many CT scans require a special dye, called contrast media, to highlight certain tissues and blood vessels. This can be given as a drink or injected into a vein. Our staff will inform you of the specific instructions when you book your appointment.
The scan itself is painless. You will lie on a table that moves through the doughnut-shaped scanner. If a contrast dye is injected, you might feel a brief warm sensation, which is normal.
The actual scanning time is very fast, often just a few minutes. The entire appointment, including preparation, may take 30 to 60 minutes.
